CELDA 2005 - Good News!
|
Cognitionand Exploratory Learning in Digital Age (CELDA 2005) conference will be in Porto, Portugal between 14 and 16th of December. Me and my friend sent our paper to this conference and got acceptance from this event yesterday. We will have a poster presentation there but the main problem is that we have to find sponsors to cover our expences in Porto for these two days. I wish we will find and we will attent this important event.

Generation Y
|
Generation Y, sometimes called Generation Why?, the "Echo Boom", or the Millennial Generation, are terms used in demographics to describe a particular generational cohort in Western societies, specifically the United States. The cohort comprises those born in the 1980s and 1990s, although no consensus has emerged specifying exact dates, which has made matters difficult and confusing for many people. Proposed start dates range from 1978 to 1985, and proposed end dates range from 1994 to 2002, making only 10 years out of the maximum 25-year threshold definitely Generation Y.
Generation Y is sometimes considered a clone or protraction of Generation X, because of the similar cultural traits (e.g. rap music, video game consoles) adopted by Generation Y, but this is possibly due to older generations dominating the marketing that attempts to reach and define this generation. As members of the generation move into adulthood, a more accurate picture and unique character is likely to emerge.

Interesting Commercial on TV
|
There is an interesting commercial on Turkish Televisions and it is about ADSL. There are two character in this commercial.Tthe first one is about 8 or 9 year-old boy and the latter is 6 or 7 year-old boy. The elder one telling the story. The interesting thing is that, although the age difference is 3 years, the internet connection before three years in Turkey was not as fast as today.
Technology is improving very very fast and we have to follow it.

Generation X
|
In the beginning of this month (in September) I attended to the seminar about technology and technological innovations and impacts on people.
One of the key speakers mentioned something that was new for me, Generation X. I looked it on the internet and now I want to share it with you.
Generation X is a term used in demographics, the social sciences, and more broadly in popular culture. It is mostly related to the Western culture and demography and generally refers to persons born in the 1960s and 1970s, although the exact dates of birth defining this age demographic are highly debated. Born after baby boomers, it has also been described as a generation consisting of those people whose "teen years touched the 1980s", though many people that are considered part of the generation had their teenage years during the 1990s.
The term is popularly associated with the people born between 1961 and 1981. Another common description of Generation X includes within it those people who grew up in a period of transition (1945–1990) beginning with the end of World War II and the decline of colonial imperialism and ending with the fall of the Berlin Wall and the end of the Cold War. Thus, the transition between colonialism and globalization is thought to separate the Baby Boomers from the Baby Busters, a sub-generation of Generation X made up of the earliest born members. There are some older Generation Xers who frown upon the classification of those born in 1980 or 1981 as being part of Generation X; these individuals often prefer to classify Generation X as those born between 1964 and the mid to late 70's.
